Governments’ obligations to exchange tax data with Bulgaria remain suspended following the OECD’s investigation into the first-ever data breach of the Bulgarian tax agency’s security systems.
Tax information exchanges between Bulgaria and other countries under the Common Reporting Standard and the EU Directive on Administrative Cooperation have been compromised, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in an Aug. 30 statement.
- On July 15, the Bulgarian National Revenue Agency found that about 3% of its databases had been hacked. Information about 4 million living citizens and 1.1 million deceased citizens was affected.
