Tech Giants Await Italy’s Digital Tax Law Guidance

Italy’s new 3 percent tax on digital advertising revenue—one of the first in Europe to take effect this year—doesn’t address exactly who would be subject to the tax or how it would be calculated.

The law was passed quickly at the end of last year, leaving Italy’s tax authority to hash out details in a decree that could be released this week.

Tax practitioners hope the forthcoming guidance will spell out crucial details that tech giants like Alphabet Inc.'s Google and Facebook Inc. will need to comply with the law.
