Tennessee DOR Announces Obion County Mineral Severance Tax Rate

The Tennessee Department of Revenue (DOR) published a notice announcing that Obion County will implement a mineral severance tax. This tax will be set at a rate of 20 cents per ton effective Dec. 1. Additionally, the tax rate will increase to 25 cents per ton starting July 1, 2030. This tax applies to the extraction of sand, chert, sandstone, limestone, and gravel from the ground on or after these dates. [Tenn. Dep’t of Revenue, Mineral Severance Tax Notice 25-28, 09/19/25]
