Thai PM Srettha Urges VAT Collection on Cheap Chinese Products

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin urges to levy value-added tax duty on cheap Chinese goods in the domestic market to prevent price dumping of low quality products and unfair trade competition.

  • Finance Ministry’s permanent secretary and chiefs of the Revenue Department and Customs Department have been instructed to discuss measures to tackle this issue, Srettha says on X, a platform formerly known as Twitter
  • NOTE: There have been inflows of cheap goods from China coming into Thai market, notably pants decorated with elephant symbol, and false information is declared on some products to avoid VAT collection
