Treasury Assures Grassley on IRS Chief
President Donald Trump plans to name a new IRS commissioner nominee, according to a key senator’s office, even after Social Security chief Frank Bisignano was named the agency’s CEO.
The Treasury Department assured Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) that it would submit a new IRS commissioner nominee to Congress, according to an aide to the senator.
The IRS is without a Senate-confirmed leader, after Trump appointee Billy Long was ousted after less than two months on the job. Bisignano will now lead the IRS’s day-to-day operations, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remains acting commissioner.
