Lawmakers approve raising VAT threshold from 150 million shillings to ease compliance pressures on small businesses, parliament says on its website.
- “The current threshold has not changed since 2015 despite inflation and growth in business activity,” says Amos Kankunda, chairman of the finance committee
- The new threshold will yield 358.3 billion shillings
- Lawmakers approved increasing excise duty on cement, adhesive and grout to 750 shillings per 50kg bag from 500 shillings per bag
- A 30% environmental levy is introduced on all imported second-hand clothes
