UK Issues Fresh Draft Rules for Carbon Border Tax Emissions Data

The UK on Thursday released a new set of draft regulations on its carbon border tax, proposing a methodology for measuring and verifying emissions associated with imported industrial goods.

The latest draft rules for the carbon border adjustment mechanism, or CBAM seek to align the UK methodologies on emissions data with the EU’s carbon border tax, according to His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

The proposed rules, open for public consultation until May 21, give details on periods over which emissions must be monitored, along with conditions associated with people who verify the data.
