UK Parliament Panel Presses Tax Office on Offshore Tax Avoidance

A UK parliamentary committee asked the country’s tax authority to provide the latest estimate of its offshore tax gap and the strategy the office will deploy to address it.

The UK Parliament’s Public Account Committee also asked His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs about its enforcement policy for high net worth individuals with unpaid tax liabilities, according to a letter sent to HMRC’s Chief Executive Jim Harra Wednesday.

The offshore tax gap measures the difference in expected offshore tax revenues and how much HMRC actually collects.
