UK Tax Authority Urged to Implement Automated Tracking System

The UK tax authority should implement an automated tracking system to allow taxpayers to check the status of their queries, according to a study by two bodies representing tax advisers and chartered accountants.

Despite the country’s tax gap falling to a historic low of 4.8% in 2023-24, His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs has struggled to meet customer service needs, the Institute of Chartered Accountant in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) said following the publication Wednesday of a six-week study on the tax authority’s customer service performance.
