The UK’s uncollected taxes totaled £59.2 billion ($78.3 billion) in 2024-25 from £52.8 billion the previous year, with a larger share of the gap attributable to the rich, His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs said Tuesday.
The tax gap—the difference between the tax theoretically owed and the amount actually collected—rose to 6.4% of the theoretical tax liability in 2024-25, up from 6% in 2023-24, HMRC said in its latest estimate. The share attributable to wealthy individuals grew more than for any other group, rising 6%, from 5% a year earlier.
