UK’s Tax Reporting Changes Will Cost More, Accounting Group Says

The UK’s new quarterly tax filing regime would have significant costs for taxpayers without any major benefit, a UK accountancy body said Tuesday.

From April 2026, self-employed individuals and landlords who earn over a certain amount will need to keep digital records and use commercial software to submit quarterly income information to His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) said in a Tuesday statement the UK tax authority’s cost estimate to taxpayers was significantly understated, as the price of software products they’d need to use to comply has significantly increased.
