The United Kingdom HM Revenue and Customs Nov. 25 announced an increase in the national minimum wage rates. The hourly minimum wages are increased to: 1) 8.91 British pounds (US$11.88) from 8.72 pounds (US$11.63) for workers who are 23 years and older; 2) 8.36 pounds (US$11.15) from 8.20 pounds (US$10.94) for workers who are 21-22 years old; 3) 6.56 pounds (US$8.75) from 6.45 pounds (US$8.60) for workers who are 18-20 years old; 4) 4.62 pounds (US$6.16) from 4.55 pounds (US$6.07) for workers who are 16-17 years old; and 5) 4.30 pounds (US$5.74) from 4.15 pounds (US$5.54) for apprentices.
