United Kingdom Tax Agency Announces Registration Deadline for Mandatory VAT Making Tax Digital Program

The United Kingdom HM Revenue and Customs Jan. 7 announced the April 1 deadline for all VAT taxpayers to register under the mandatory Making Tax Digital (MTD) program, regardless of their taxable turnover threshold. The announcement includes: 1) instructions on the registration process; 2) information on how to apply for a filing exemption under the mandatory MTD program; 3) that taxpayers must register at least five days after their last non-MTD VAT return deadline, and no less than seven days before their first MTD VAT return deadline; and 4) digital record-keeping requirements.
