Uruguay’s President Orsi Pushes Back Against Tax Hike Chatter

April 20, 2026, 12:54 PM UTC

Uruguay’s President Yamandu Orsi said the administration doesn’t plan further tax hikes beyond those included in the budget even as his ruling Broad Front party evaluates measures to increase tax revenue, Subrayado reported.

  • “As the government, we are not considering, nor do we have on the horizon, any changes in that regard,” Orsi said in televised comments late Sunday
  • NOTE: The Broad Front began an internal discussion earlier this month on raising government revenue by modifying almost a dozen taxes
