US Rejects UN’s Global Carbon Tax Proposal

The US says it “unequivocally rejects” the International Maritime Organization’s proposal for a “Net-Zero Framework” aimed at reducing global carbon dioxide gas emissions from the international shipping sector.

  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy comment in a joint statement
  • US is considering several actions, including visa restrictions, against nations that support the carbon tax, according to the statement
  • The proposal “unduly or unfairly burdens the United States or harms the interests of the American people,” the statement says
