Treasury Working on Moving Forward New, Updated Tax Treaties

Treasury is moving forward on a number of updated tax treaties, Jose Murillo, deputy assistant Treasury secretary for international tax affairs, said Wednesday.

Treasury is hoping a tax treaty with Chile—voted out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in March—will receive Senate floor time before year-end, Murillo said. If that happens, the treaty would go back to Chile for its congress to approve two reservations, he added. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in August urged the Senate to move on the Chile treaty.
