Virginia Expands Local Authority to Impose Transient Occupancy Tax

The Virginia Governor signed a law amending the code to expand local authority to impose transient occupancy taxes and to restructure the governance and administration of tourism improvement districts (TIDs). The law authorizes additional taxes and formalizes the use of private nonprofit entities to administer TIDs. The law takes effect July 1. [H.B. 524, enacted 04/06/26 (Identical to SB 314)]
