Western Australia Premier Says Not to Expect Gas Tax in Budget

A windfall tax on exports of liquefied natural gas would be bad for Western Australia and the industry, State Premier Roger Cook said on Tuesday.

  • Cook said sudden changes in the business environment would not be good for building long-term, stable investment in the resources sector
  • He said he has spoken personally with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the issue
  • He added he’s “quietly confident” there won’t be any developments on this issue in the upcoming budget
  • Cook was speaking at a forum organized by the Nikkei newspaper in Perth
