Yara May Drop US Project If Fertilizer Excluded From EU CO2 Levy

Yara International ASA warned that it could abandon a planned low-emission ammonia project in the US if the European Union was to exclude fertilizers from its flagship carbon border levy.

The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which took effect on Jan. 1, puts an emissions charge on imported goods in certain sectors. It aims to shield carbon-intensive industries from unfair competition during the bloc’s green shift — particularly from firms operating where there are weaker climate laws.
