Alaska House Passes Tax Plan for Massive Natural Gas Pipeline

A bill reflecting Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s (R) alternative tax strategy for a proposed liquefied natural gas megaproject won wide approval in the state House Friday despite concerns it would deprive local governments of revenue.

The House approved HB 381 by a 34-5 vote after it streaked through the chamber’s Finance Committee Wednesday on a unanimous vote. The measure now moves to the Senate, which has until June 19 to take action. Both chambers are meeting in a 30-day special legislative session Dunleavy called to address the complex tax bill.
