AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile Lose California Property Tax Appeal (2)

Property tax challenges filed by AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will be dismissed after a California appeals court rejected the utilities’ interpretation of the state constitution.

The companies sought refunds of $10.6 million, $1.47 million, and $1.1 million, respectively, for fiscal years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. They alleged Santa Clara County violated the state constitution by taxing their property at a higher debt-service tax rate than a non-utility property.

The California Sixth District Court of Appeal rejected the utilities’ interpretation of the constitutional provision on Friday, reversing a trial court’s ruling denying the county’s motion to dismiss. ...
