The European Parliament’s tax subcommittee narrowly passed a proposal recommending an EU-wide digital services tax on tech companies.
The panel approved a proposal Thursday for a resolution calling on the European Commission to propose the DST—a levy on income that tech companies make from online activity such as digital ad sales
The proposal will need to be approved by the EU Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs within which the tax subcommittee sits. If it gets approval there, it will then be discussed by the so-called conference of presidents, a body that includes the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola
