Bryan Cave’s Earnings Tax Case Is Baseless, St. Louis Argues

Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP’s lawsuit seeking a refund of more than $370,000 in St. Louis earnings taxes should be rejected, the city and its revenue collector Gregory Daly told a Missouri trial court.

The law firm’s May 9 complaint alleged that for 10 years the city only taxed 14.4% of each nonresident partner’s distributive share of the firm’s net income. Then, for the first time, the city adjusted the firm’s 2022 earnings tax return to allocate 100% of nonresident partners’ income to the city if they were assigned to the St. Louis office.
