California’s tax agency will issue guidance to help ride-hailing services and their drivers report independent contractor income to the state, Franchise Tax Board Chief Counsel Jozel Brunett said.
With voters approving Proposition 22 to exempt app-based drivers from a new state law classifying them as employees on Nov. 3, Uber Technologies Inc., Lyft Inc., and other ride-sharing platforms can pay drivers as contractors.
