The California Board of Equalization (SBOE) Dec. 14 issued a letter to county property tax assessors concerning the 2024 revision to Assessors’ Handbook Section 534, Rural Building Costs. The letter states that the analysis of cost data relative to rural buildings and agricultural-based equipment is complete, and the new costs become effective as of Jan. 1, 2024. The data analyzed during 2023 was based on recently sampled market data, producer price index data, and cost information from knowledgeable sources in the rural cost field.
