California CDTFA Publishes Excise Tax Information on Electronic Waste Recycling Fee

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration Nov. 1 published information on an electronic waste recycling (eWaste) fee imposed on the purchase of certain video display devices, for excise tax purposes. The fee doesn’t apply to sales for resale, sales to American Indians on Indian reservations, and sales of covered electronic devices when the retailer ships outside of California. The fee only applies when a buyer takes possession of the device in California. Sales to the U.S. government aren’t exempt from the fee.
