The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) has updated its guide for motor vehicle dealers regarding the state sales and use tax laws. The guide explains the taxability of vehicle sales, the treatment of charges like license fees and warranties, and tax implications for leases, rentals, and non-resale vehicle use. For sales made on or after July 1, the CDTFA-531-MV (Used Vehicle Dealer—Sales Report) will be removed from the sales and use tax return, relieving dealers of the need to report detailed transaction information previously required.
