California Digital Ad Tax Bill Stalls But May Come Back in 2026

A California bill to tax social media companies’ gross receipts from digital advertising to fund programs to reduce risks to youths using the platforms has stalled for the year.

Assemblymember Josh Lowenthal (D) said in an email on Tuesday he is delaying discussion of his bill (A.B. 796) until 2026 to allow more time to work out the details.
