California Disney Employees Win Appeal in Minimum Wage Bout

A California appeals court reversed a lower court’s summary judgment in favor of Walt Disney Co. on Thursday and said the company must pay a minimum wage to certain workers because it was subsidized by Anaheim, Calif.

An Anaheim Living Wage Ordinance, which sets an annually increasing minimum wage for hospitality employers that benefit from a “city subsidy,” applies because Disney received rebates—a type of subsidy—from the city, the court said.
