California FTB Issues Revised 2020 Instructions for Form 540, Resident Income Tax Return

The California Franchise Tax Board March 1 issued revised 2020 instructions for Form 540, Resident Income Tax Return, for individual income tax purposes. The instructions include: 1) important dates; 2) information on the earned income tax credit, young child tax credit, and refund of excess state disability insurance; 3) details on common errors and ways to prevent them; 4) steps to determine filing requirements; and 5) differences between state and federal tax law, and conformity to the Internal Revenue Code.
