Californians this spring were tepid in their support for paying higher taxes, including those aimed at preparing for future wildfire outbreaks, according to coronavirus-delayed reporting of voting results.
Most ballots in the 17 counties that put fire-preparation questions to voters are cast by mail. Ballots postmarked midnight March 3 had to reach election officials within three days. Under normal circumstances, final results would have been required to be reported to the state by April 3. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, led Gov.
