Cannabis Cultivators in California Beat Commercial Tax Expansion

Amendments to a commercial marijuana cultivation tax in northern California impermissibly expanded who is taxed, what land is taxed, and the time frame of the tax, a state appellate court said Thursday.

Humboldt County voters approved the commercial cultivation tax in 2016. The rule allowed the county to amend it as long as the change didn’t result in an increase in the amount of the tax or broaden its scope.
