The battle over an upcoming referendum on Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposed “mansion tax” could be decided by the Illinois Supreme Court after business interests asked the high court Monday to hear the case.
A coalition of landlords, contractors, and real estate agents petitioned the court to review a March 6 ruling by the Appellate Court of Illinois vacating an earlier judgment by Cook County Judge Kathleen Burke, who barred elections officials from tallying votes on the “Bring Chicago Home” referendum.
