Commission Schedules Vote on DC Tax Code Overhaul Proposal

The commission designing an overhaul of Washington, DC’s tax code revived its dormant reform proposal and scheduled a meeting next month to vote on a final recommendation that includes a controversial business activity tax and a new data excise tax.

The DC Tax Revision Commission announced Thursday it would meet Oct. 9 to consider adoption of the “chairman’s mark,” a set of 40 draft recommendations designed to improve tax competitiveness and fairness. The announcement comes after the 11-member commission, without explanation, canceled a July 17 meeting and scheduled vote on the overhaul proposal.
