Cum-Ex ‘Mastermind’ Loses German Constitutional Challenge (1)

Hanno Berger, the German lawyer once dubbed the “mastermind” of Cum-Ex, lost another challenge at Germany’s top court against a conviction in the tax scandal that robbed billions of euros from government coffers and ensnared some of Wall Street’s biggest banks.

Berger tried to overturn rulings by Germany’s top criminal court that had backed his 2023 conviction and sentence to eight years and three months. His case was listed among February filings at the website of the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe.
