Individuals and businesses in Washington, DC, will not see any new taxes under a $22 billion fiscal 2026 budget the DC Council passed Monday.
The new budget does, however, repeal an existing tax credit program that provided $420 per child for up to three children. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) had proposed that cut as part of her budget request in May. An amendment to fund the child tax credit by raising capital gains taxes for the wealthiest investors was defeated.
