State tax administrators adamantly oppose changing the April 15 federal tax filing deadline, saying any adjustment by the Treasury Department would completely upend the state tax filing season.
The Federation of Tax Administrators, representing the interests of all 50 state revenue departments and several large municipal agencies, on Wednesday issued a policy statement encouraging Treasury to ignore pleas for a national filing extension. Adjustments imposed on the states last year were highly disruptive, the group said.
