October 1 is a significant day for sales tax enforcement in a smattering of states.
In what could be the last large sweep of new regulations affecting remote sales tax, 14 separate laws are set to go live in 11 states on that date. The laws fall into two different groups, both tied to the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2018 South Dakota v. Wayfair decision, which tossed out the 1992 physical presence standard in Quill Corp. v. North Dakota, a ruling that limited the ability of states to tax remote sales.
