The European Commission on Wednesday proposed a rejigged budget that would merge the EU’s funding for single market, customs, tax cooperation and anti-fraud programs.
In total, the commission proposed a budget of €6.2 billion ($7.2 billion) over seven years starting 2028, with €475 million allocated for taxation cooperation.
The proposal was part of a €2 trillion budget the commission proposed in July, meant to cover everything from agriculture subsidies and climate change mitigation to defense and infrastructure spending. In contrast, the last budget, agreed in 2021, was €1.2 trillion.
