Florida Drops Business Rent Tax, Adds August Sales Tax Holiday

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed bills implementing the state’s $115.1 billion budget Monday, including tax code changes like a full repeal of the business rent tax and the creation of a permanent month-long back-to-school sales tax holiday.

DeSantis approved HB 7031 ahead of the 2026 fiscal year, which begins Tuesday. The governor applauded the Republican-controlled legislature for maintaining Florida’s low tax profile, even though lawmakers declined to address his proposal for property tax relief.
