Florida Budget Deal Kills Rent Tax, Extends Sales Tax Holidays

Florida lawmakers will return to the state capitol in Tallahassee Tuesday to finish work on the 2026 budget, after legislative leaders struck a tax-cutting agreement that includes $2.25 billion in total revenue reductions.

Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez (R) and Senate President Ben Albritton (R) agreed on a framework for a budget deal late Friday, ending a stalemate on how best to cut taxes without impacting the state’s long-term fiscal health. Budget conference negotiations will kick off on Tuesday, followed by at least two legislative days beginning Thursday, the two leaders said.
