The Florida Governor June 13 signed a law authorizing the Dorcas Fire District in Okaloosa County to assess ad valorem and non-ad valorem taxes. The law includes measures to: 1) authorize the district to assess ad valorem taxes up to 3.75 mills annually, subject to referendum approval; 2) provide various rates of assessment for non-ad valorem assessments; and 3) provide for procedures for property owners to file protests of assessments.
