Georgia Authorizes Brunswick Homestead Property Tax Exemption

The Georgia Governor signed the Home Ownership Municipal Exemption Act. The law includes: 1) providing each City of Brunswick resident a homestead exemption from City of Brunswick ad valorem taxes for municipal purposes in an amount equal to a certain percentage off the assessed value of the homestead based upon how long the homestead was owned; 2) providing that the exemption does not apply to or affect state or county ad valorem taxes or county or independent school district ad valorem taxes for educational purposes; and 3) providing that the homestead exemption is in addition to, and not in lieu ...
