The Georgia Governor signed a law concerning a Polk County homestead property tax exemption beginning Jan. 1, 2026, subject to voter approval. The law includes providing a homestead exemption from Polk County school district ad valorem taxes for educational purposes for residents aged 65 and older: 1) with residents aged 65-69 receiving an exemption of 50 percent or $60,000; 2) residents aged 70-76 receiving a 75 percent or $80,000 exemption; and 3) residents aged 77 and older receiving a full exemption up to $500,000 appraised value.
