Georgia Provides Fayette County Homestead Exemption, Subject to Voter Approval

The Georgia Governor signed a law that includes: 1) providing a homestead exemption from Fayette County ad valorem taxes for county purposes in a floating proportional amount based upon the amount of property taxes collected in a particular tax year that exceeds the value of property taxes collected in tax year 2025; 2) providing that the exemption is subject to Fayette County voter approval in the November election; and 3) providing that the exemption is effective on Jan. 1, 2027 if approved by the voters.
