Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will start the process this year to launch the state’s full-fledged tax court after voters approved a constitutional amendment last November allowing formation of the independent judicial body.
Kemp must appoint a chief judge for the incipient Georgia Tax Court, leading to a legislative confirmation process before the Senate and House judiciary committees. The chief judge will then take steps to establish the court and prepare for its launch on Aug. 1, 2026. A spokesperson for Kemp declined to comment on whether the second-term Republican had begun vetting candidates for the post. ...
