Hawaii DOT Issues Guidance on Excise Tax for Marketplace Facilitators

The Hawaii Department of Taxation Oct. 17 issued a tax information release on the expanded imposition of general excise tax (GET) to sales made through marketplace facilitators for excise tax and sales and use tax purposes. The release discusses information form Act 2, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2020. The act deems facilitators as retail level sellers of tangible personal property, intangible personal property, and services sold through its marketplace. Sales by sellers to a facilitator are considered wholesale.
