Hawaii Lawmakers to Negotiate Airbnb Tax Collection Bills

Legislators in Hawaii have passed different versions of a measure that would require Airbnb and other short-term rental companies to collect taxes from hosts in the tourist-heavy state.

The Senate April 9 passed an amended version of H.B. 419, which authorizes “transient accommodations” and requires hosting platforms to collect and remit taxes to the state. That same day, the House passed S.B. 1292, which also requires the home-sharing platforms to collect a tax on transient accommodations and general excise tax on bookings.
