Hochul Calls Trump Advisers’ SALT Cap Proposal ‘Empty Gesture’

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said Thursday a plan floated by advisers to President-elect Donald Trump to increase the state and local tax deduction is “nothing more than an empty gesture.”

“It fails to deliver the meaningful relief working families desperately need as they struggle with rising costs,” she said in a statement, calling on the state’s congressional delegation to fight for a “complete restoration of the SALT exemption.”
