Honolulu’s City Council voted unanimously May 14 to override the mayor’s veto of a bill to lower property taxes.
Bill 3 was written to increase the real property tax exemption by bumping basic and multiple home exemptions to $100,000 and $140,000, respectively. The mayor of Honolulu, Kirk Caldwell, vetoed the bill May 3, but the nine-member city council overrode that decision.
